So, I reemerge once again to bring you pix! :D I had the awesome pleasure of hosting the ever-fabulous Xypne of [profile] soliandxypne for a whole week! :D We had tons of fun and I can't wait to have her back again!

So, I figured I would post the epic pix from our adventures together, since I didn't want her to get bored. Warning: THIS POST IS EXTREMELY PIC HEAVY.

But I think you'll enjoy. :)

Thursday night Jimmie and I picked her up from the airport and we came back home, chilled out, and then promptly crashed since it was almost three in the morning. However, before that, she gave me a present!

SANZO AND GOKU DOLLIES! *dances* Yes, they are just as epic as they look. I squeed and glomped her properly.

Goku and his Nyoi-bo

Sanzo and his fan.

Just to enumerate how epically f'ing awesome Soli and Xpyne are for making me these: 1) They are entirely handmade. 2) They have magnets in their hands and faces so that they can hold hands and kiss...

And 3) they have magnets in their butts and their anatomically correct penises FOR THE EPIC BUTTSEX. I know I'm a perv for this, but HOW FUCKING AWESOME IS THAT?!?! XDDDD

On Friday, we got up and headed out to Abita Springs to visit the Insta-Gator Alligator Ranch. Here, they harvest alligator eggs in the marshes and swamps (since the population was dwindling) and they raise them. They release 12% of all the hatchlings back into the wild, the rest are used for leather products and meat (this reduces the amount of poaching that takes place). They've brought up the population from 150,000 to almost 4 million in the state of Louisiana! We also took Xpyne out to lunch and then let her have her very first snowball. XD

Our guide, Royce. Behind him is an actual representation of the American Alligator. The topmost pic is an adolescent. The middle is an average female and on the bottom is the average male, at a whopping 16-19 feet long! O_O

Baby alligator! Only 9 inches long, and still has enough teeth and jaw power to bite a finger off.

This is a cayman, which is another species of crocodillian.

And this is the crocodile, the much more aggressive cousin of the alligator.

I can't remember what it was called, but these two machines pictured here are used to dry and shave alligator skins to be used for leather products.

Yes, that's a fan boat. That's what they use to get through the marshes and swamps to get to the nests to find eggs.

Imitation nest. The black marks on the eggs are used to make sure the eggs are kept right-side up. Fun fact: if you turn an alligator egg over on the wrong side, you'll actually suffocate the baby inside. Hence why the harvesters mark them to prevent that.

Like something out of a nightmare, no? Imagine about ten of these pits on each side of a barn.

Apparently, alligators like marshmallows. We were told later that they resemble turtle eggs, but Royce cracked a joke about how alligators live in marshes and it makes them mellow. Yuk yuk yuk.

Royce catching on e of the alligators in the pit. Funny enough, that was the littlest one that another guest picked out. Royce apologized later for the lack of effort it took to catch it.

Alligator walking around in the grass

For a little extra, we got to catch baby alligators in a pool! Of course, their mouths were taped shut so no one got bit, but they were feisty little things!

Yeah, I totally got splashed by one.

Xpyne and I catching babies.

Another fun fact: alligators will go to sleep if you turn them upside down. It messes with their equilibrium and makes them dizzy, so they go to sleep. You know, just in case you ever find yourself faced with an alligator. XD

I had to save Xypne!

Don't worry, we conquered it.

Jimmie helped, too.

Saturday, we went to Global Wildlife, where you can ride in a wagon and feed and pet animals like deer and giraffes. It's another conservation effort, and it's the largest in the US. :) Later that night, I took Xpyne to have boiled crawfish for the first time. XD I'm sure she'll post pix, and when she does I'll snag them. XD She said they were delicious, just disgusting to peel. We also walked around downtown Covington and had drinks at Outback with Jimmie and some of his co-worker buddies.

The herd of animals following behind us. XDDD Unfortunately, we were in the last car and our speaker was broken, so I have no idea what half the different kinds of animals there are there. But they look pretty, don't they?

Some of them would eat out of your hand, and others just wanted you to throw the food on the ground. Many of them traveled around with us the whole time.

See? Right up close.

Xpyne feeding one of them out of her hand.

We tried to get the giraffe to come over by the wagon, but they were having none of it.

This little guy followed us the whole way, strutting and looking like he was escorting us. We joked that he was acting like a boss and making sure we were enjoying ourselves.

Zebras! You couldn't feed them from your hand since they bit, but still cool.

Bison and steer. They wandered over, but to the wrong damn car.

Me feeding one of the deer.

Me, Xpyne, and my roommate, Steph.

Baby zebra with some serious attitude. XD It was bucking and kicking and showing off.

Sunday, I had to work on Easter. :( When I got home, we hung out and waited for Jimmie. Once he got here, Xpyne, Jimmie, my bff Amy and I all went out to IHOP for Easter dinner. Because we're classy like that. XD

On Monday, we hung out and I went for a job interview, which went well! I'm still waiting to hear back for the official YOU"RE HIRED, but hey, it's a start! After that, we went to the Honey Island Swamp and had an epic adventure! I didn't have batteries in my camera, so the pix you see belong to Xpyne. Then, we went to Outback for dinner and hung out while Xpyne drew me epic Kirk/Bones pix! :D :D :D

Xpyne and I as we waited for the tour to start.

Boat launch.

Bald Cypress, which are endangered. They're also the Louisiana state tree.

You may have to click to see it better, but that's definitely an alligator lurking in its natural habitat. Xpyne got some sweet pix of the alligator jumping out of the water to get hot dogs our tour guide was feeding it on a stick, but I don't have those. :(

Another of the alligator.

A scenery shot and the wake from the boat.

Another scenic view.

You may have to click on it again, but there's a snake camouflaged in the branch there.

The line on the trees is an indication of how high the water can get in the swamp and the river. Pretty neat, huh?

Actual houseboats!

Tuesday was our trip to New Orleans which almost didn't happen. We had a wicked bad storm early in the morning, and then there was rain predicted all day. But it ended up being sunny and beautiful all day. We had lunch at a place called Pierre Masparo's, and it was delicious! We walked around the Quarter and the French Market, and poked our head in random little shops here and there. The rest of the night was spent vegging at the house, almog with drive-thru daiquiris and epic board games.

I didn't take as many pix as I usually do, but I liked what I did take.

We parked in downtown New Orleans and walked to the French Quarter. The walk was nice and the parking was cheap!

Us again.

Not sure what denomination, but the church is pretty, yes?

Streetcar on Canal St. We didn't ride it, but the pic is nice.

Cheesy, but here's your Voodoo. XD This was a tourist stop, but the real voodoo shops in the Quarter won't let you take pix.

Xpyne doing her best Southern Belle impression.

Louisiana Supreme Court building. Very nice.

Nice picture of St Louis Cathedral, if I do say so myself.

Xpyne and I in Jackson Square.

Since we walked down Bourbon St, we had to stop and get drinks. At four o'clock in the afternoon. XD We stopped in at Tropical Isle, which is the home of the Hand Grenade, a very delicious and extremely potent drink. We had one each and that was enough. XD

Xypne couldn't get over the fact that you can walk around with booze on the sidewalk. XD In the Quarter, the open container law doesn't apply, as long as it is in a plastic cup. You can walk around with your drink while you schmooze on Bourbon, go into the strip clubs, or just walk around the Quarter. She wanted proof to show everyone. XD

Wednesday we lazed around, and then I took Xpyne to get beignets and coffee before I dropped her off at the airport. It was a sad ride home. :(

Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed! Maybe now you'll see how awesome Louisiana is and want to come visit. ;)))
